Nitrasol may be headquartered locally in Great Yarmouth, but our joint venture with HELM, one of the world’s largest distributors of fertilisers – with locations in 30 countries – gives us unrivalled access to the world’s most efficient factories located in some of the lowest-cost gas production areas.
That’s important as the Government weighs new CBAM fertiliser taxes that threaten to push fertiliser costs even higher in an uncertain world and unleash a fresh round of food price inflation. We still don’t know how much the taxes will be – estimates range from £15 to £55 per tonne -but one thing is for sure – they will only get more expensive as the ‘Free Allowance’ discounts are reduced over time. Farmers that want to beat the tax this spring should order now for delivery before Christmas.
At Nitrasol, we benefit from a long-term supply arrangement with Proman in Trinidad, nestled amongst the world’s largest exporters of ammonia. The potent deep-well gas that flows from their own gas field, via their own pipeline directly into their $5bn liquid fertiliser factory, is 29pc more carbon-efficient than the standard CBAM figures and 55% better than the United States’ default values.
Better still, all the CO2 generated as a by-product from fertiliser production is incorporated into useful economic products like melamine and methanol, which power the latest generation of clean-burning ships. Astonishingly, this unique fertiliser production process releases no CO2 to the atmosphere.
As other producers struggle to capture and store the CO2 from their activities in hugely expensive carbon-capture-and-storage processes that require billions in subsidies, our UAN offers all the benefits at no extra cost. In this respect, Nitrasol liquid nitrogen fertilisers are ‘better than blue’.
Our sustainability leadership considers the entire supply chain, from the gas field to your field. Whether it’s from more efficient shipping, which consumes two-thirds less fuel per tonne than Baltic routes, sealed quayside storage, which prevents contamination, ammonia release or oxidation here in the UK, or a touched-once distribution system that means the first time our fertiliser meets the air is in your field, Nitrasol is the market leader in end-to-end low-carbon fertiliser efficiency.
Ultimately, our global supply, which optimises the combination of the world’s lowest-cost gas, the most efficient production, the lowest shipping & distribution and the lowest carbon tax benchmarking, makes Nitrasol the most competitive proposition, which can only improve as carbon taxes increase.
With over 200 years of fertiliser experience in the UK, our ‘better than blue at no extra cost’ proposition is one which underpins the long-term growth of our business and means that you can develop a long-term partnership with us with confidence.
