Every step is cleaner, greener and safer with a whole system that’s streamlined engineered and contained to reduce energy consumption and improve air quality. The whole system demonstrates more than just environmental leadership. We combine the most modern quayside terminals with a reliable distribution network backed up by a team of local specialists who can help you convert. Everything we do helps you make the most of the benefits of liquid fertilisation on your farm including the provision of on-farm tanks.

The System

  • The whole factory-to-field Nitrasol system helps farmers incorporate industry leading sustainability to their system. Our engineered system focuses on cleaner air, purer water, less waste and lower carbon. The result is the Lowest Total Environmental Impact of any nitrogen fertiliser typically used in the UK.
  • Using IPCC estimates of fertiliser production Greenhouse Gas emissions at the factory-gate, normalised for potency, we assess over 50 further data points for carbon consumption and ammonia emissions. Taking the entire fertiliser production, distribution and application system from factory-to-field, we estimate that Nitrasol has about a fifth lower emissions and about half the logistical steps than other commonly used fertilisers in the UK.
  • Starting with a clean sheet of paper, we have redefined what a fertiliser terminal should be like. We’ve taken a engineering and logistics approach to tacking the problem of carbon and ammonia emissions.
  • Wasteful steps like double handling and the problems associated with outdoor lagoons have been eliminated.
  • Our terminals feature bunding for total environmental containment and sealed vessels to eliminate losses of ammonia for cleaner air. And of course, there is no place for single-use plastic or packaging in a factory-to-field system that eliminates spillage and risk of leaks by using dry fit connectors and compressed air purging.
  • Perfecting a large number of small marginal gains at each logistical stage throughout the entire Nitrasol system from factory-to-field results in a winning combination.
  • You benefit from all this unrivalled carbon efficiency at no extra cost. If you’re serious about the path to NetZero only Nitrasol has the fewest steps, lower emissions, least carbon and zero waste.
  • We understand that demand for liquid fertiliser peaks in the spring. That’s why we have invested in the most modern terminals in quayside locations close to international supply lines with sufficient storage capacity to meet peak demand.
  • Fast replenishment by ship tanker during the season is only part of the story. Our terminals are designed for the strategic storage of both raw materials and finished products. They are matched to production capability and multi-point loading capacity. Our terminal managers work together to optimise production and transport resources to match customer expectations nationwide.
  • The combination of computerised batch control, tandem weigh-bridges and dry-fit connectors at each terminal allows road tankers to be loaded quickly and around the clock, directed to field-side tanks by GPS technology.
    • The move to the more efficient, sustainable and productive Nitrasol liquid fertiliser system on your farm can be triggered by a number of events. Whatever the reason, our local experts can support your system change to liquid.
    • Taking on more land, the retirement of a key operator or the replacement of a sprayer can all prompt a change in fertiliser policy on your farm. Alternatively, it might just be the recognition of the compelling environmental, agronomic and operational benefits of liquid fertiliser that drives the move.
    • We have a bespoke four stage on-farm process to ease your conversion, which might include the option of supplying and managing the installation of one or more on-farm tanks.
Our tank options are all purpose built in the UK, offering class leading technology to help you keep your liquid fertiliser product clean, safe and secure.
    • Manufactured with obsessive attention to detail, each tank is installed and securely anchored to the ground to prevent tipping over in high winds or floating within the bund after heavy rainfall. The squat shape and polished neutral green translucent finish makes it easy to see how full the tank is whilst minimising visual impact.
    • Stainless steel security valves can be locked to ensure the integrity of the contents and to minimise risk of spillage and environmental leakage. An empty tank must be secured against high winds and from floating if the containment bund fills with rainwater above a critical height.

    Our Larger 50m3 Tanks
Each branded 50m3 GRP tank will hold 60 tonnes or two loads and is suitable for an annual throughput of 180-200 tonnes or about 7 full loads per year. The tanks are translucent, include capacity measurement markers and integrated UV-stabilisation for long life. They feature stainless steel security valves compatible with your sprayer and contain robust anchoring straps.

    Our Smaller 30m3 Tanks
  • We have a choice of 30m3 tanks based on robust GRP or rotary moulded plastic. Each will hold 35 tonnes or one load and is suitable for an annual throughput of 100 tonnes or about four full loads per year.

Both choices are translucent to aid capacity measurement. Whilst smaller in size, many farmers prefer the flexibility of 30m3 tanks as it allows different fertiliser grades to be stored on the farm. They can also distribute storage capacity across a larger area to reduce travelling for sprayer replenishment.
  • The use of liquid fertilisers can help your farm be more efficient, productive and sustainable. Quickly absorbed by the plant, the optimum mix of ammonium, ureic and nitrate sources in our fertilisers allows crops to get a head start in cooler or adverse ground conditions. The nitrogen remains available for longer so your crops reach their full potential.
  • Modern sprayers allow you to work more reliably at wider bout widths with fewer tramlines in all conditions. This way you make better use of your land.
  • The Nitrasol system results in a winning combination of about a fifth lower emissions of ammonia and carbon and about half the logistical steps that risk contamination, waste and leakage from one of the most impactful inputs in UK agriculture.
  • Our Terminals

Both feature tanks on the quayside connected with direct pipelines. Sunderland has a deepwater berth able to accommodate the largest tanker vessels. Our terminals have been constructed to EuroCodes Standards, the hardest test. They were designed with complete engineering solutions like bunding for total environmental containment and sealed vessels to eliminate losses of ammonia losses for cleaner air.
Fertilisers are pumped by ship directly into sealed tanks by dedicated pipeline. Rainwater recovery minimises resource usage. The use of gravity discharge and oversized pipes reduce friction losses and energy consumption during production.
Dry-fit connections eliminate spillage and waste as part of our total atmospheric containment system. And of course, there is no place for single-use plastic in a factory-to-field system that eliminates spillage and risk of leaks by using dry fit connectors and compressed air purging.
Our design has eliminated the double-handling that risks leakage and transport losses. There is no place for open lagoons that risk rainwater dilution, contamination or ammonia volatilisation in our system.

    Great Yarmouth

Completed in June 2019, this modern terminal features over 25,000 tonnes of fertiliser storage with direct connections to the quayside for fast and secure ship replenishment. Each tank is sealed and fully bunded to minimise unwanted emissions and complies with the most stringent environmental security standards. Over ten loading points and tandem weigh-bridges ensure rapid turnaround of road tankers and we are optimally located to deliver to farms located in East Anglia and from the Humber to the South Coast.
